town of Montgomery is St Nicholas church
St Nicholas Church is Norman, built in 1226. The grand tomb of George Herbert's parents can be seen here. There is a double Rood Screen and carved angels from the 13th Century mounted on this. The gate through to the church is Elizabethan. There are some spectacular mid 19th century stained glass windows and the nave ceilings still show their original forms.

Had a bery enjoyable walk around the town, this church is particularly nice inside and out. Tea and cake at the Ivy House Cafe when done - very nice.
Shame the grass cutter leaves your car covered in grass cuttings. Spoilt my day out.
Shame the church is closed “due to Covid”. Doesn’t the church trust us to use a face mask, disinfect and keep our distance and only go in if there’s only one or two others in there? What’s the problem? Do they think we need supervising? Church closed due to crisis - you couldn’t make it up. Nearby Bishops Castle doesn’t share the same mistrust.
